Dell Oklahoma City Visit

I was pleased to have the opportunity to visit the Dell offices in Oklahoma City this week. I was even more pleased to find almost 2,000 happily engaged team members there. In so many ways I felt right at home. Here's a cool video overview and following is a quick summary of the great things I experienced which made me think of our Utah operations:

  • Easy access – The site is close to the airport and two major highways. I had no problem finding it and appreciated the prominence of the two 3-story buildings and their location. Downtown Oklahoma City is clearly visible at a comfortable distance.
  • Welcoming facilities – The Oklahoma River flows nicely alongside the site and is accompanied by a walking/jogging/biking path. (This is some consolation for the lack of mountains. 😊) There is ample land around the building for parking, relaxing, playing and even further expansion, if needed. The buildings themselves are modern and efficient.
  • Large, diverse population – The team member population was diverse in many ways, some easily noticed and others that required a closer look. The latter includes the job functions performed by the teams as well as their areas of interest. This was further illustrated as I learned about the many Employee Resource Groups which are active there (WoMen in Action, Pride, Black Networking Alliance, Planet, Veterans & Supporters, True Ability).
  • Heavy involvement in the community – Seeing the Oklahoma City Thunder NBA team signs in several places was certainly fun, but there were other less visible partnerships I learned about throughout my visit. This includes the Boys & Girls Club, YMCA, March of Dimes, American Diabetes Association, food banks, public schools, and more.
  • Strong local leadership – The governance model for the site includes a leadership team that meets on a regular basis as well as an extended team that includes leaders from the Employee Resource Groups. They all have regular “day jobs,” but are willing to devote time to site-wide programs that make Dell OKC a Great Place to Work.

Thanks Dell OKC team! I look forward to a partnership as we move forward together under the Dell Technologies banner!
